Common questions
Questions on compliance
General information only. The position for any taxpayer depends on the facts and the law in force.
GST & indirect tax
When are GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B due?
For monthly filers GSTR-1 is due on the 11th and GSTR-3B on the 20th of the following month. Quarterly filers under the QRMP scheme have different dates. The firm confirms the dates that apply to your registration.
Why does input credit need matching with GSTR-2B?
Input tax credit can only be claimed for invoices that your supplier has reported and that appear in your GSTR-2B. Claiming unmatched credit leads to reversal with interest later, so the match is done before each return.
Income tax & TDS
When must TDS be deposited?
Tax deducted in a month is deposited by the 7th of the next month, except for March, where the date is 30 April. Quarterly TDS statements have their own due dates, which the firm tracks for you.
Do I need a tax audit?
A tax audit depends on turnover, the share of cash receipts and payments, and whether presumptive taxation is used. The position is checked each year rather than assumed.
ROC & incorporation
How long does incorporation take?
With complete documents, a private limited company is typically incorporated within one to two weeks of filing, subject to MCA processing times. Name availability is the most common cause of delay.
What happens if annual filings are missed?
MCA charges additional fees per day of delay, and prolonged default can lead to director disqualification and the company being marked inactive. The firm tracks the dates and files in time.
NRI & cross-border
Do I need to file an Indian return as an NRI?
If your Indian income exceeds the basic exemption limit, or if you want a refund of tax deducted at source, yes. Many NRIs have TDS deducted at higher rates on rent or interest and recover it only by filing.
What is Form 146 (earlier Form 15CB)?
A chartered accountant's certificate that tax has been considered on a payment being remitted outside India. It accompanies Form 145 (earlier Form 15CA), which the remitter files, and the bank asks for both before releasing the funds.
A regulated profession. Chartered accountants practise under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 and the Code of Ethics of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. This website is an introduction to the firm's areas of practice, provided on request; it is not advice, and it does not replace advice based on your facts, documents and the law in force.
